by Virginia Greco

The actuality and prolific nature of the topic called for a second special issue. ICN2 group leaders Prof. Merkoçi and Prof. Lechuga signed the editorial.

A second special issue of the Biosensors and Bioelectronics journal devoted completely to research related to COVID-19 is available online. ICREA Prof. Arben Merkoçi, leader of the ICN2 Nanobioelectronics and Biosensors Group, is one of the co-editors-in-chief of the publication. This issue includes 19 contributions from authors from various laboratories around the world. The biosensor devices and platforms presented across these research works are oriented at the detection of the SARS-COV-2 virus or related biomarkers in various physiological fluids, as well as other kind of samples such as the air. The detection technologies developed are diverse, ranging from optical to electrical ones.

Prof. Arben Merkoçi, Prof. Chen-zhong Li, from the Center of Cellular and Molecular Diagnosis of Tulane University School of Medicine (New Orleans, US), Prof. Laura Lechuga, leader of the ICN2 NanoBiosensors and Bioanalytical Applications Group, and Prof. Aydogan Ozcan, from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA, US), have authored the editorial of this issue.
