Two more research institutes recognised as CERCA centres

by Virginia Greco

The Parc Taulí Institute for Research and Innovation Foundation (I3PT) and the San Juan de Dios Private Foundation for Research and Teaching become part of the CERCA network, which aims at fostering collaboration, synergies and excellence among research institutes in Catalonia.

On June 20, with the resolution REU/1987/2022, the Parc Taulí Institute for Research and Innovation Foundation (I3PT) and the San Juan de Dios Private Foundation for Research and Teaching were recognised as CERCA centres. Now the CERCA network includes 42 research centres.

The mission of CERCA is to guarantee the correct development of the Catalan research centre system; foster and maximise synergies, inter-centre coordination and strategic cooperation; improve the positioning, visibility and impact of the research carried out, and facilitate dialogue with the different public and private stakeholders. The CERCA model is characterised by the achievement of ambitious scientific and technological milestones with limited resources. The centres optimise their assets and share common actions and good practices.

The centres admitted in the CERCA network are non-profit entities that have their own legal personality, are based in Catalonia, and whose main purpose is research at the frontier of knowledge; they must be created by (or count on the participation of) the Catalan Government (Generalitat) and, where appropriate, together with one or more universities or other public or private entities.
