New technologies for circular economy

by Virginia Greco

Dr Amador Pérez-Tomas, senior postdoctoral researcher at the ICN2, presented LighNET in an online event organised by XRE4S, XIA and BlueNetCat.

On September 21, XRE4S hosted a webinar to present to industry representatives and other stakeholders the latest advances in research for circular economy, in particular, in the energy, food and maritime sectors. The event, which was organised in collaboration with XIA (Network of Food Innovation) and BlueNetCat (Catalan Maritime Network), included a number of presentations about new technological solutions to boost circular economy.

Among the speakers –who were researchers in different fields from the University of Lleida, the University of Vic, the University of Rovira i Virgil, IRTA, IREC and the ICN2— was Dr Amador Pérez-Tomas, senior postdoctoral researcher in the ICN2 Advanced Electronic Materials and Devices Group, who presented LightNET, an innovative negative emission technology that uses light to enhance direct air capture of CO2 and mineralize it onto solid surfaces.

The full video of the webinar is available here.

XRE4S is the R+D+I Network Energy for Society: a multidisciplinary and transversal ecosystem that gathers the expertise in the energy field of the main universities and research centers in Catalonia. The main goal is to promote the technology transfer and valorisation of energy technologies to industry and society.
