LEIT holds the first Workshop and All-Partners Project Meeting in Palma de Mallorca
Representatives of the institutes participating in the LEIT project, led by ICN2 group leader Prof. Dr Clivia Sotomayor-Torres, met to discuss recent results and future steps.
The LEIT project held the first Workshop and in-person All-Partners project meeting on October 18 and October 19-20, respectively, in Palma de Mallorca. Both events were hosted by the ICN2 Phononic and Photonic Nanostructures Group and introduced by ICREA Prof. Dr Clivia Sotomayor-Torres, leader of the same group and coordinator of LEIT.
In these fruitful meetings, the current status of the project was discussed, the latest results were presented, and the milestones and objective for the coming term were reviewed. In addition to representatives of the partner institutes, in the Workshop also participated Dr Daniel Torrent, from the University Jaume I (Castellón, Spain), and Dr Marco Miniaci, from the Institute of Electronics, Microelectronics and Nanotechnology of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (IEMN-CNRS, France), as invited speakers.
LEIT, from “Lossless information for emerging information technologies”, is a five-year project funded through an ERC Advanced Grant, which was conferred to Prof. Sotomayor-Torres. The aim of the project is to develop structures that allow taking advantage of phonon properties to transmit information using small amounts of energy. This would lay the scientific and technological foundations of a new phononics-based approach to information processing, with crucial advantages in terms of low energy-consumption, reliability and compactness.

This project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Grant agreement No: 885689).
