The 7th Scientific Meeting of PhD Candidates will offer opportunities for networking, sharing experiences, learn about future career opportunities and have fun. A guided tour of the ALBA Synchrotron installations is also offered.
The Scientific Meeting of PhD Candidates (JPhD2023), which this year reaches its 7th edition, will take place on 7-8 June 2023, at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB), on the Campus of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). This event is aimed at PhD candidates at any stage of their doctoral studies. The objective of the conference is to create a multidisciplinary environment for young researchers, coming from a wide variety of fields and disciplines, countries, and research centres, to meet, network and share their experience. Such networking and cross-fertilisation will hopefully result in future research collaborations.
The main topics of this year's edition are: Energy and Environment; Synthesis and Characterisation; Electronics and Nanofabrication; Nanomaterials and Magnetism; and Bio-applications in Medicine. They have been carefully chosen to ensure an adequate overlap among the attendees’ fields of interest, to facilitate their intercommunication but also encourage them to leave the comfort zone of their specific PhD topics. In addition, the Organising Committee have planned fun activities –complementary to the plenary, invited and oral contributions, which will also be there anyway— such as round tables about subjects of interest to young researchers: career opportunities within academia or industry and their complementarity, and social impacts of science, to name some.
The unprecedented opportunity of participating in a guided visit to the ALBA synchrotron will also be offered. Young researchers will be able to discover the most intricate nooks and secrets of ALBA, as well as the brand-new microscopy centre named Joint Electron Microscopy Center at ALBA (JEMCA) –the visit will take place on the morning of June 9. Hurry up and register quickly as the seats for the ALBA visit are limited.
General information and abstract submission/registration are available here (deadline: April 28).
