ICN2 participates in UAB's Dissabtes de la Física outreach programme

by Àlex Argemí

Last Saturday, Head of the ICN2 Marketing and Communication Department, Àlex Argemí, engaged participants with a series of nanoscale challenges and experiments that sparked a lively debate around the ethical implications of nanotechnology. The next session will be led by Professor Javier Rodríguez-Viejo, UAB Professor and Senior Group Leader of the ICN2 Thermal Properties of Nanoscale Materials Group, on the topic of electromagnetism.

Dissabtes de la Física (Physics Saturday), an outreach initiative led by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and featuring the active participation of the ICN2, continues to provide insightful and interactive physics-related activities for attendees. The latest event took place on Saturday 20 February, during which Head of the ICN2 Marketing and Communication Department, Àlex Argemí, engaged participants with a series of practical nanoscale challenges and experiments.

The activities sparked a lively debate around the ethical implications of nanotechnology, as attendees shared their thoughts and opinions via an online menti quiz. The event was attended by physics enthusiasts who were intrigued by the potential applications of this emerging field.

Looking ahead, Prof. Javier Rodríguez-Viejo, UAB Professor and Senior Group Leader of the ICN2 Thermal Properties of Nanoscale Materials Group, will lead the next session on Saturday 25 February. His talk, entitled "From magnetic monopoles to super-fast trains: a lightning tour of the laws of electromagnetism", promises to offer attendees a relaxed and interactive introduction to the equations governing electromagnetism. Through practical demonstrations, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of electromagnetism and its impact on modern society.

Overall, Dissabtes de la Física provides an engaging and informative platform for the public to explore physics-related topics and engage with experts in the field.
