ICREA Prof. Arben Merkoçi Has Been Invited to Become a Fellow Member of the European Academy of Sciences
Leader of the Nanobioelectronics and Biosensors Group, ICREA Prof. Arben Merkoçi has recently been invited to join the European Academy of Sciences (EurAsc) in the Materials Science Division. The organisation’s primary objective is to enhance European science and promote scientific collaboration by bringing together distinguished scholars.
The European Academy of Sciences (EURASC) operates as a non-profit, non-governmental organization, fully independent and committed to advancing science and scientific collaboration throughout Europe. Its mission is to transcend national borders, viewing the European scientific community as a unified entity. This goal is achieved through the recognition and election of prominent European scholars and engineers engaged in cutting-edge research and the development of advanced technologies. United by a shared dedication, EURASC members, including ICREA Research Professor Arben Merkoçi, actively promote the pivotal roles of science and technology in propelling innovation and fostering social and economic progress.
ICN2 was accredited in 2014 as a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence, a recognition renewed in 2018 and 2023 for another 4 years. The support and accreditation of Severo Ochoa are directed towards centers of excellence renowned for their international scientific leadership. Additionally, these organizations have proven the capacity to make significant contributions to advancing the frontiers of knowledge and producing high-impact outcomes. Being recognized as a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence is not only a recognition of scientific excellence but also an important source of funding, which represents an annual allocation of 1 million euros over 4 years.
The election of ICREA Prof. Arben Merkoçi to join the European Academy of Sciences (EURASC) in the Materials Science Division serves as evidence of ICN2’s dedication to achieving outstanding results in the fields of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Leading the Nanobioelectronics and Biosensors Group, Prof. Merkoçi’s impact on nanoscience and nanotechnology is widely recognized, showcased by his prolific publication record of 343 articles and supervision of 45 PhD theses. His expertise also extends to serving as a key scientific evaluator for various international agencies. Moreover, he is frequently invited to share his insights and expertise at conferences and workshops worldwide.
