Great Success of the SUSNANO Spring School Hosted by ICN2

by Jose M Arcos

This event is a part of the SUSNANO project, a collaborative effort involving the University of Tirana and other partner institutions, focused on developing sustainable devices for water pollution detection.

The ICN2 had the honour of hosting the SUSNANO Spring School on April 15th and 16th, bringing together researchers and students interested in the field of sustainable electrical nanosensors for water pollution detection. Over two days, participants were allowed to share their experiences in this area. The event, organised and coordinated by Prof. Arben Merkoçi, Dr Ruslan Alvarez, and Anna Puig, provided an excellent opportunity to comment, debate, and discuss the most recent advances, key points, and future challenges of their lines of research.

The agenda comprised diverse activities, including lectures, talks, workshops, and networking opportunities. It is notable the participation of renowned leaders in the field, such as Michal Otyepka, Cesar Fernandez, Cecilia Jimenez, Isabel Pividori, Vincent Bouchiat, and Luká Spchal. Also, there were talks and demonstrations by ICN2 members, such as Dr Marianna Rossetti, Dr Andrew Piper, Dr Giluio Rosati, Massimo Urban, Andy Bruno, and Gabriel Maroli.

About SUSNANO

SUSNANO is a Horizon Europe Twinning project that aims to enhance the scientific excellence and innovation capacity in the field of sustainable nanosensors for water pollution detection of Universiteti i Tiranes (UT) and its high-quality Twinning partners. It also promotes collaboration between the institutions, while highly nurturing the research careers of the involved scholars. Key investigators include ICREA Prof. Arben Merkoçi (leader of the Nanobioelectronics and Biosensors Group at ICN2), Prof. Dr Majlinda Vasjari (University of Tirana), Prof. Michal Otyepka (Palackého v Olomouci University), and Giles Brandon (Intelligentsia Consultants Sarl).

Moreover, this initiative is part of broader European efforts that seek to promote economic and sustainable development, as well as digital transformation, in the Western Balkan region.
