Futurechromes: 10 Years of Commitment to Innovation in Nanotechnology

by Jose M Arcos

This company, in which ICN2 is involved, is celebrating its tenth anniversary by highlighting its achievements since its creation in 2014.

Futurechromes, a spin-off company with participation from ICN2, will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2024. Specifically, the company is closely linked to the Nanostructured Functional Materials Group, led by CSIC Prof. Daniel Ruiz Molina. The team includes ICN2 Senior Researcher Claudio Roscini, who also serves as the CEO, ICN2 Dr Sohini Sinha as Research and Technical Developer, researcher Aleix Carrascull, and Dr Luz Carime as the Business Developer. Over the years, Futurechromes has been committed to transferring knowledge and advancing the field of nanotechnology. Through its work based on the WO2013/132123 nanocapsules-based coating patent, the company has made it possible to take a step forward in the smart glass industry.

This tech firm has developed different photochromic nanomaterials into products, such as inks, coatings, lenses and glass for buildings and vehicles. Moreover, it remains at the forefront of the industry today, continually researching and innovating smart materials with a wide range of applications (fashion, design, art, etc.).

During this decade, Futurechromes has worked with several partners and consolidated an important customer portfolio. Additionally, it has a clearly defined mission in its emerging industry: to continue developing a new generation of photochromic nanomaterials to address societal challenges such as energy efficiency, safety and comfort.

ICN2 actively fosters entrepreneurial activities and the creation of spin-off companies. The Business & Development Department and the Strategy Development Office are dedicated to supporting these initiatives by guiding them in their development and providing information and educational resources to ICN2 members. We congratulate Futurechromes and reaffirm our commitment to developing spin-off companies that will implement ICN2's technology to enhance people's lives.
