ICN2 Participated in the 14th International Conference on Scientific and Clinical Applications of Magnetic Carriers

by Jose M Arcos

The event was organised by Dr Alejandro Gómez, Senior Researcher in the Magnetic Nanostructures Group, in collaboration with researchers from the INMA (Lucía Gutiérrez) and the ICMM (Puerto Morales).

The 14th Conference on Scientific and Clinical Applications of Magnetic Carriers took place from June 17 to 21, 2024, at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities on the UAB campus. This edition attracted around 250 participants from over 45 countries. As a leading and highly specialized conference in its field, it covered topics such as magnetic nanostructures and their biomedical applications.

The conference began with a welcome reception at the UAB Casa de Convalescència in the center of Barcelona. Over the next four days, participants presented new findings on the use of magnetic nanoparticles in biomedicine. These ranged from innovative synthetic routes for designing novel magnetic nanostructures to the clinical application of these nanoparticles in addressing current health challenges. The conference featured about 70 oral presentations, including six keynote lectures, and 160 poster presentations.

This event aligns with the Severo Ochoa Programme and its focus on internationalization activities in the health field. In addition to the organizer, Alejandro Gómez, several other members from ICN2 participated in the conference. Aritz Lafuente (Magnetic Nanostructures Group) gave an oral presentation, while Roger Gómez (Nanostructured Functional Materials Group) and Karen Mejía (Inorganic Nanoparticles Group) presented posters. The conference organization was also supported by Cristina Vaca, Enric Casas, Jessica Ramírez, Arnau Fonts, and Hiba Balli from the Magnetic Nanostructures Group.

ICN2, through the Severo Ochoa Centres of Excellence Programme (Grant CEX2021-001214-S), was one of the sponsors of the conference, along with INMA, ICMM and several other national and international companies.
