by Chema Arcos

This award highlights her outstanding work and contributions to nanoscience and innovation.

On 24th October, ICN2 and CSIC researcher Dr Elena del Corro (Advanced Electronic Materials and Devices Group) received her medal as a member of the Academia Joven de España (Young Academy of Spain), in a ceremony held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. This event was the official recognition of her incorporation into the Academy in 2024, which was announced last June when Dr Elena del Corro was one of the 7 candidates selected from more than 140.

The Young Academy of Spain, which was founded in 2019, has as one of its objectives the promotion of science as a career option for young people, as well as the stimulation of scientific training, research and development as drivers of economic progress.

Dr Elena del Corro thus joins a select group of young researchers at the forefront of their fields, representing scientific excellence and commitment to the advancement of knowledge in Spain. Her research focuses on the development of neural interfaces based on two-dimensional materials, for which she has received funding from various programmes, including an ERC Consolidator Grant.
