ICN2 and the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology Join Forces to Advance Nanotechnology Research

by Chema Arcos

The two institutions have signed an institutional collaboration agreement to promote joint research activities and projects, exchange talent and explore new funding opportunities.

On 18 November, ICN2 received Prof. Sushanta Mitra’s visit, Executive Director of Canada's largest nanotechnology research centre, the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology (WIN), and Professor in the Department of Mechanical & Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. One of the main objectives of the visit was the signing of a collaboration agreement between ICN2 and the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology.

During the visit, ICN2 management team members accompanied Prof. Sushanta Mitra on a tour of the institute's facilities, as well as the ALBA Synchrotron and the JEMCA advanced microscopy centre. The day also included some panel discussions on bilateral collaborations.

The institutional collaborative agreement will seek to:

  • Develop joint research activities, with a particular focus on the broader areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology
  • Promote joint training opportunities for graduate students
  • Support mobility of faculty, staff and students
  • Explore new funding opportunities between ICN2 and WIN, starting with a Seed Funding programme between the two institutions

This agreement strengthens ICN2's position as one of the leading centres in nanoscience and nanotechnology and is the result of the centre's internationalisation efforts under the Severo Ochoa programme. ICN2 welcomes this great opportunity for collaboration between two leading institutions.
