MaX Project Takes Part in HiPEAC Conference, Aimed to Showcase Female Talent and Leadership

by Marina Corradini

Together with other European Centres of Excellence (CoEs), MaX will be organising two workshops at the 2025 edition of this prestigious conference, held in Barcelona from 20 to 22 January.

At the upcoming HiPEAC25 (High Performance and Embedded Architecture and Compilation) conference, the European Centres of Excellence (CoEs), including MaX (MAterials design at the eXascale), will host two special workshops to delve into the world of HPC while highlighting the contributions of women experts in the field.

Funded by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU), the CoEs are initiatives committed to developing and optimising advanced application codes in light of the upcoming exascale transition to tackle critical scientific and societal challenges. Part of their mission is also to build a more inclusive community in HPC by showcasing the expertise of women specialists and professionals from marginalized communities.

The workshops will gather experts from various projects, with representatives from all the CoEs and relevant Euro-HPC initiatives. The speakers will present on a range of topics, such as computer architecture, programming models, compilers, and operating systems.

Explore the workshops below:

- From petascale to exascale and beyond: the Centres of Excellence challenge (Monday 20 January, 10:00 - 17:30).

- Tackling software exascale challenges: the Centres of Excellence in High Performance Computing perspective (Wednesday 22 January, 10:00 - 17:30).

Driving diversity and excellence in HPC

After two decades of connecting and inspiring the HPC community, HiPEAC returns to Barcelona for its 20th edition. As the premier European forum bridging industry and academia in computing systems, HiPEAC gathers industry, research, and policy professionals to promote R&D in computer architecture and computing systems in Europe.

The initiative proposed by the European CoEs addresses ongoing gender disparities in HPC, where women remain underrepresented, particularly as keynote speakers at conferences. By normalising women’s voices in the field, the CoEs aim to inspire and empower the next generation of women in STEM.

Further information about the HiPEAC25 conference is available on the HiPEAC website.

About MaX

MaX is a European Centre of Excellence which enables materials modelling, simulations, discovery and design at the frontiers of the current and future High-Performance Computing (HPC), High Throughput Computing (HTC) and data analytics technologies.

ICN2 is one of the partners in the MaX’s project. The Institute is represented at its General Assembly by CSIC Prof. Pablo Ordejón, ICN2 Director and head of the Theory and Simulation Group.
