Dr Neus G. Bastús Appointed as New Group Leader at ICN2

by Chema Arcos

She will lead the Inorganic Nanoparticles Group. Her work focuses on designing and developing innovative synthesis strategies to precisely control the composition, size, morphology, and structural complexity of advanced inorganic nanocrystals, enabling the creation of high-performance materials for a wide range of applications.

Dr Neus G. Bastús is a physicist specialised in the synthesis and functionalization of metallic nanoparticles. She obtained her Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Barcelona (UB) in 2008, followed by a postdoctoral stay at the University of Hamburg (Germany). In 2011, she was awarded the Juan de la Cierva Fellowship, followed by a Marie Curie Career Integration Grant. Later, she obtained a Ramón y Cajal contract and established her research line at ICN2 as part of the Inorganic Nanoparticles Group. In 2022, she obtained a research scientist position at CSIC within ICN2. Now, in 2025, she assumes the role of Group Leader.

Her research focuses on designing and developing innovative colloidal wet chemistry strategies for advanced inorganic nanomaterials. By combining physics and materials chemistry, her work seeks to advance high-performance materials for diverse applications, including energy solutions, biomedicine, and environmental sustainability. At the same time, she aims to incorporate sustainability principles to ensure resource efficiency, safety and economic viability in nanomaterials development.

Beyond her research career, Dr Bastús has always demonstrated a strong commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in science. She currently chairs the Equal Opportunities Committee at ICN2.

We at ICN2 congratulate Dr Neus G. Bastús on this significant achievement and extend our best wishes for success in her future projects. Her leadership promises to open new avenues for innovation and scientific excellence.
