by Chema Arcos

The ICN2 Group Leader becomes a member of the Science and Technology Section of this leading institution, committed to standardising, protecting and promoting the Catalan language and culture.

ICREA Prof. Arben Merkoçi, leader of the ICN2 NanoBioelectronics and Biosensors Group, has recently been elected as a new member of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (IEC) as part of the Science and Technology Section. He will join the other new members, Prof. Josep Calbó (University of Girona) and Prof. Anna Fontcuberta (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, EPFL). Prof. Merkoçi, who was born in Albania and obtained his PhD from the University of Tirana, is a great example of commitment to various social areas. This recognition highlights his exceptional scientific career in nanotechnology—where he specialises in the development of new bionanosensors— and his dedication to promoting and defending the Catalan language and culture.

The IEC is a renowned academic institution in Catalonia, dedicated to the standardisation and promotion of the Catalan language across various sectors, including education and science. Prof. Merkoçi's appointment strengthens ICN2's mission to achieve research excellence and to build stronger connections between science, culture and society.

From ICN2, we would like to congratulate our researcher and Group Leader, Arben Merkoçi, on this well-deserved recognition.
