ICN2 Hosts Science Communication and Open Science Training to Empower Researchers
The workshop, held in the ICN2 Seminar Room, brought together 16 participants, including PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and communication and Open Science specialists.
On December 5, 2025, ICN2 organised a Science Communication and Open Science training session aimed at equipping researchers with practical tools to communicate their scientific work more engagingly. The training, delivered by Eduscopi, focused on mastering essential communication strategies to reach both scientific and general audiences. Participants learned how to:
- Use tools such as the attention curve to capture audience interest.
- Adapt messages for diverse audiences while integrating Open Science principles to make research more accessible and impactful.
- Strengthen scientific leadership through clear and influential communication.
As part of the hands-on approach, attendees prepared short pitches of their scientific projects, applying the techniques learned during the session. The workshop concluded with an engaging discussion among participants on Open Science, highlighting the challenges researchers face in adopting it, particularly under the pressure of metrics such as the impact factor and h-index.
This initiative was made possible thanks to the MDG Project (MDG-23-11382), funded by the María de Guzmán grant from the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) and the Ministry of Science and Innovation. With a budget of €85,000 over 23 months (2024–2025), the project enabled ICN2 to implement a comprehensive FAIR data management system, aligning the institute’s infrastructure with the principles of Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable data. As part of this strategy, ICN2 is committed to promoting Open Science practices, including training researchers in effective scientific dissemination.
By combining technical innovation with communication skills, ICN2 continues to strengthen its leadership in Open Science and ensure that research outputs are both impactful and accessible.
