BStartup Health, a Banco Sabadell's program, invests in ICN2 spin-off INBRAIN
INBRAIN Neuroelectronics, a spin-off of the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology and ICREA, receives a new funding from Banco Sabadell BStartup Health wich allow the company to speed up the development of novel graphene-based for brain restoration.
INBRAIN Neuroelectronics, a spin-off of the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) and ICREA, was established in 2019, among others, by ICREA Prof. Jose Garrido, leader of the ICN2 Advanced Electronic Materials and Devices Group, and Prof. Kostas Kostarelos, leader of the ICN2 Nanomedicine Group, with the mission to develop brain-impulses based on graphene technology for applications in biomedicine. This company uses graphene, the thinnest material known to man, to build the new generation of neural interfaces for brain restoration to help patients with epilepsy, Parkinson’s, and other neuronal diseases.
BStartup Health, Banco Sabadell’s program dedicated to support innovative health projects, has invested in this company. This new investment sums to accelerate the development of these novel intracranial implants. According to BStartup, INBRAIN is developing the least invasive and smartest neural interface on the market. Driven by artificial intelligence and the use of big data, this MedTech company will have the ability to read and modulate brain activity, detect biomarkers of therapy, and trigger adaptative responses in personalized therapies.
“INBRAIN is a clear example of a quality project: we have been following them for a long time, because they have a pioneering technology worldwide, with a scientist of enormous recognition in his field as Dr José A. Garrido.” said Yolanda Pèrez, BStartup director.
