The first chapter aired today with Dr Sonia Ruiz-Raga as its guest researcher. The new channel will offer a broad view about top research performed at the ICN2 and neighbouring centres such as ICMAB, IFAE and IMB-CNM-CSIC. The UAB supports this channel not only by sharing content but also offering a space for the video recording.
What The Física is a new YouTube Channel in Spanish to bring science, and physics in particular, closer to society. Through short videos, the ICN2 researchers and colleagues from neighbouring centres such as ICMAB, IFAE and IMB-CNM-CSIC, share their passion and their knowledge in an entertaining and personal way. The channel is targeted to young students who are starting or about to start their studies (and who will hopefully become researchers). Still, the tone and fresh content of the videos make them suitable for all ages.
The first chapter brings you an excellent female researcher, Dr Sonia Ruiz Raga, from the ICN2 Nanostructured Materials for Photovoltaic Energy group led by Prof. Mónica Lira Cantú, who studies new methods to obtain and accumulate renewable energy. Specifically, she is carrying out research to create new perovskite devices for converting sunlight to clean energy in an effective, cheap, durable, and sustainable way.
She joined the ICN2 two years ago through the "la Caixa" Junior Leaders programme and dreams about creating a product to generate renewable energy, commercializing it and seeing it used in everyday life. She also received an award in 2021 by the L'Oréal-UNESCO "For Women in Science" programme.
