JPhD2024: a New Successful Edition of this Benchmark Event for PhD Candidates

by Chema Arcos

The conference brought together a large number of young researchers from the Barcelona Nanocluster-Bellaterra to promote scientific communication, collaboration and the exchange of innovative ideas.

The 8th edition of the PhD Researchers Meeting (JPhD2024) was held at ICMAB from 27th to 29th November. This conference is considered one of the most important platforms for science communication and networking between doctoral researchers from the Barcelona Nanocluster-Bellaterra. Since its creation in 2011, the JPhD has become a key event with the participation of multiple scientists from the different centres that are part of the Nanocluster, including ICN2, ICMAB, IMB-CNM and UAB.

The organising team of the event included several representatives from ICN2: Sara Navarro Rodríguez, Jorge Martínez Romeral, Patricia Aguilar Merino and Kevin García Diez. In this year's edition, various activities took place, including oral presentations, poster sessions and workshops. Some of them were given by ICN2 researchers and covered a wide range of topics:

  • Joaquín Medina Dueñas: Field-free spin-orbit torque switching in Janus Chromium Dichalcogenides.
  • Lingxin Meng: Coassembly of complementary polyhedral metal-organic framework particles into binary ordered superstructures.
  • Hugo Gómez Torres: Measurement of thermal conductivity of nanostructured materials using four-probe thermal conductivity method with AC measurements.
  • Arnau Villalobos Martín: Studying the transformation of thin film stable glasses by monitoring local electrostatic interactions.
  • Alaeddin Maddouri: Raman of 2D-MoS2. A conundrum disentangled.
  • Amir Mohammad Ghadiri Ghehi: Self-assembly of metal-organic framework particles to form self-standing oriented membranes.
  • Noel Muñoz: Ketocyanine-based supramolecular switches for near-infrared-to-visible thermochromism.
  • Ignacio Figueruelo-Campanero (ICN2 visiting student, from IMDEA): Tailoring epitaxial graphene properties by adsorbed oxygen and their effect in the Quantum Hall state.
  • Nicola Ria: High-resolution bidirectional neural interfaces in Parkinson's disease (Poster).
  • David Llorens: Probing Structural and Chemical Evolution in Noble-Metal-Free Catalyst (Poster).
  • Francesco Salutari: Unveiling the Optoelectronic and Thermal Properties of SnSe Polycrystals via EELS (Poster).
  • Jing Yu: Cation Vacancies Regulate the Electron Spin Configuration of Cathode Catalytic Additives towards Robust Li-S Batteries (Poster).

In addition, postdoctoral researcher Catalina Coll (Theory and Simulation Group) was invited to participate in the round table 'Career development with a gender perspective'.

By supporting this type of initiative, the ICN2 reaffirms its commitment to science communication and the promotion of scientific excellence and interdisciplinary collaboration.
