NyNA 2017 brings together the analytical nanotechnology community

by Àlex Argemí

The VIII International Congress on Analytical Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (NyNA 2017) was held in Barcelona on 3-5 July. Its Organising Committee was formed by the ICN2 Group Leaders ICREA Prof. Arben Merkoçi, Prof. Laura Lechuga and ICREA Prof. Jordi Arbiol. The event was a unique opportunity to create enduring links and discuss the advancements in areas such as diagnostics, safety and security, environmental monitoring and other industrial applications.

The aim of the VIII International Congress on Analytical Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (NyNA 2017) was to bring together scientists working in the field of analytical nanoscience and nanotechnology to show their recent findings with interest for various applications. This objective was successfully fulfilled during the three day event held in UAB’s Casa Convalescencia in Barcelona.

The Organising Committee of the Congress was formed by ICREA Prof. Arben Merkoçi, Prof. Laura Lechuga and ICREA Prof. Jordi Arbiol, all of them Group Leaders at the ICN2. Together with a selected national Scientific Program Committee they managed tpo put together an appealing program that engaged almost 100 experts.

The program included international influencers such as Prof. Hatice Altug, Associate Professor at the BioEngineering Department of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) (France), Prof. Yoshinobu Baba, Research Professor at the Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry Department of the Nagoya University (Japan), Prof. Anja Boisen, Professor at the Department of Micro- and Nanotechnology of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU NANOTECH) (Denmark), Prof. Aydogan Ozcan, Associate Director of the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) and Founder of Holomic/Cellmic LLC among others, and Prof. Anna Fontcuberta, Associate Professor Laboratory of Semiconductor Materials at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) (France).

The Opening Ceremony was conducted by Prof. Pablo Ordejón, Dicrector of ICN2, Prof. Miquel A. Pericàs, Director of ICIQ, Prof. Salvador Alegret, Professor of Analytical Chemistry at UAB, who was surprised by a warm birthday celebration by his colleagues, and ICREA prof. Arben Merkoçi, Group Leader at ICN2 and member of the Congress Organising Committee. The event was a unique opportunity to create enduring links and work together to bring benefit to society as a whole. Diagnostics, safety and security, environmental monitoring and other industrial applications are just some of the many fields that could benefit from the advancement of this discipline.

ICN2 wants to thank all the attendees for being part of this exciting event, and very specially thank the sponsors that supported the event: DropSens, GraphenicaLab, NanoVex Biotechnologies and the journals Lab on a Chip and Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry. Together we made things happen at the nanoscale.
