Dr Irena Spasojević receives the Young Scientist Award in Magnetism

by Chema Arcos

The postdoctoral researcher in the Nanomaterials for Advanced Memory and Computing Group has been recognised at the International Conference on Superconductivity and Magnetism (ICSM2026). This award highlights her outstanding contributions to magneto-ionics, a key field in the development of new electronic and spintronic technologies.

Dr Irena Spasojević, a postdoctoral researcher in the ICN2 Nanomaterials for Advanced Memory and Computing Group, led by ICREA Prof. Jordi Sort, has won the Young Scientist Award in Magnetism at the 11th International Conference on Superconductivity and Magnetism (ICSM2026), which took place in Fethiye-Ölüdeniz, Turkey. This conference is a leading international forum for the fields of superconductivity, advanced materials, and magnetism.

In addition to receiving the award, which recognises her as a highly promising young researcher in the field, Dr Irena Spasojević also delivered an invited talk at the conference. Her research focuses on ferroelectricity and magneto-ionics, an emerging field that explores how ionic motion and electric fields can be used to control the magnetic and electronic properties of functional materials. Her work is opening new opportunities for the development of low-power memory devices and hardware security solutions, which are expected to play a pivotal role in the future of digital technologies.

This recognition emphasises the strength of emerging talent at ICN2 and reinforces the institute’s contribution to advancing functional materials for next-generation technological applications. ICN2 warmly congratulates Dr Spasojević on this important achievement.
