One step closer to using nanoporous graphene in smart filters and sensors

As part of a national research collaboration, Spanish researchers including the ICN2 have made uniformly nanoporous graphene a practicable reality. A major milestone in graphene research, this brings us one step closer to unlocking this wonder material’s full potential not only in electronics, but also in filtration and sensing applications. Presented this morning to journalists at a press conference at the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology, the work is published in Science.

The spinoff adventure: sharing knowledge and experiences

Last week ICN2 Business Development Officer Nadia Pons gave a talk outlining the institute’s spinoff creation policy and encouraged in-house researchers to get involved in entrepreneurial projects. The session was then opened to the whole of the university campus for a presentation by Barcelona Activa to promote its 2018 pre-accelerator programme for business creation.

The ICN2 reopens its doors for this year's ESCOLAB

Lab tours give young students the opportunity to interact with real scientists and get a sense of what happens at a research centre. Last week almost 100 students came through our doors to learn about the research carried out at the ICN2. This event was made possible thanks to the participation of the researchers and admin personnel who gave up some their time to organise some unique experiences.

Talent scouting at the Universitat de Barcelona's Careers Fair

Last week the Universitat de Barcelona held its Careers Fair, an event designed to showcase job opportunities and career paths and attract students in the final stages of their university degrees. Representing the ICN2 were People Development Officer Julio Gómez and HR Generalist Ainhoa Ayastuy.

FLEXPOL Project highlighted by Inspira Biotech

The project aims to develop a pilot line for the production of a cost effective antimicrobial adhesive film for its use in hospitals. The ICN2 brings to the initiative fabrication techniques for hierarchical topographies based on micro- and nanofeatures as well as a patent for an in-line non-invasive measurement system used to inspect the quality of the continuously produced film materials.
