Bacterial or viral? Accurate diagnosis of infections with a paper-based test

A new immunoassay test to distinguish viral from bacterial infections could help reduce the use of antibiotics and the consequent development of drug-resistant bacteria. This study published in Nanoscale has been carried out by a team of researchers led by Prof. Kimberly Hamad-Schifferli, from the University of Massachusetts, and ICREA prof. Victor F. Puntes, from the ICN2 and the VHIR.

Nanotechnology and the ICN2 at the X Researcher’s Week

Laia Villalobos, a student at the Collegi Sant’Andreu of Barcelona, reached the final stage of the INVESTIGA I+D+I Programme, organized by Iberdrola and the CSIC, with a project on graphene nanotechnology. The technical advice offered to her by Dr César Moreno Sierra of the ICN2 Atomic Manipulation and Spectroscopy Group was key to this achievement.

Let your innovation stand out at the Graphene for Health Investment Forum

Save the date: The Graphene Connect is coming to Barcelona next 6 November. It will be focused on MedTech and Diagnostic Technologies. It is co-organised by the Graphene Flagship, the ICN2 and the Medical Association of Barcelona to facilitate a direct interaction with key players and investors. The ICN2 is curating the event through its Business and Innovation Department.

The ICN2 hosts students from the Youth and Science programme

Sponsored by Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, the programme aims to foster scientific vocations in young students. The students have enjoyed the experience of being a researcher by interacting with the Nanobioelectronics and Biosensors Group and the Novel Energy-Oriented Materials Group. Two students winning the Biology Olympiad also joined us during the summer for an immersive research experience.
