IP & Technology Transfer Officer Jordi Reverter, from the ICN2 Business and Innovation Department, has written a brief summary of the evolution of technology transfer in Spain in the last fifteen years that is published in les Nouvelles - Journal of the Licensing Executives Society. Spain occupies de 9th position in the worldwide ranking of scientific production, but only the 30th position in innovation. Why?

A special session on Nanophonics and Nanomechanics, organized by Dr Pedro David Garcia from the ICN2 and Dr. Daniel Lanzillotti-Kimura from the Centre de Nanosciences et de Nanostructures - CNRS (France), was held at META 2019 – Lisbon to discuss recent development of this research field.

Scientists from the ICN2 Nanobioelectronics and Biosensors Group led by ICREA Prof. Arben Merkoçi have carried out a research to enhance the sensitivity of lateral flow tests. They have proposed to include cellulose nanofibers in the test area, which has produced an average increase of 36.6 % of the colorimetric signal on positive tests. The proposed modification can be easily applied to any kind of lateral flow strip, enabling its use in point-of-care applications.

Researchers from the ICN2 Physics and Engineering of Nanodevices Group have proposed a modified graphene-based nanodevice fabrication technique that has increased up to three times the spin lifetime and relaxation length compared to previous work of the same kind. The work was fruit of the collaboration with Imec and K.U. Leuven (Belgium). The results have been published in 2D Materials and are expected to empower investigations on large-scale spintronic applications.
