Daniel Grajales of the ICN2 NanoBiosensors and Bioanalytical Applications Group was at this year’s Maker Faire Barcelona, held this past weekend from 17 to 18 June. The Maker Faire originated in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2006 as a meeting point for the tech-influenced DIY community, and has gone on to bring together the creative and the curious around the world ever since.

The ICN2 was at Barcelona Science Fair 2017 together with collaborating institutions such as the University of Barcelona (UB), Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB) and CRESIB. With a central booth devoted to discovering the nanoworld, ICN2 researchers and communicators interacted with a large audience made up of families and science lovers.

The 10alamenos9 Festival of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology is back with over 100 activities to choose from at five locations in Spain. Among them, the UAB Campus in Bellaterra, where it kicked off today with a tour of the research facilities and a talk from ICN2 ICREA Research Prof. Stephan Roche.

ICN2 is leading with UB, UAB and CESIRE this project to bring nanoscience closer to young citizens. The educational materials offered in the NanoKits are designed to be used as part of the curriculum of different subjects. The Catalan Minister of Education, Meritxell Ruiz, and the Catalan Minister of Business and Knowledge, Jordi Baiget, approached yesterday the CESIRE booth at YoMo to learn about innovative didactic materials such as the NanoKit.
