The Sabadell City Hall organaises every year a research and technology area during the city’s annual local festival. It is crowded with organisations sharing innovative projects. The ICN2 was sharing in one of the booths some general concepts about the nanoscale and some highlighted research lines, such as lab-on-a-chip technologies, brain-computer interfaces and superhydrophobic materials.

Vil·la Urània, a public space with a special flavour for science dissemination at the heart of Sarrià-Sant Gervasi in Barcelona, hosted several events related with the European Week of Sustainable Energy. Prof. Pedro Gómez and Daniel Rueda, from the ICN2 Novel Energy-Oriented Materials Group, were among the participants.

Sponsored by Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, the programme aims to foster scientific vocations in young students. The students have enjoyed the experience of being a researcher by interacting with the Nanobioelectronics and Biosensors Group and the Novel Energy-Oriented Materials Group. Two students winning the Biology Olympiad also joined us during the summer for an immersive research experience.

A public lecture on quantum research carried out at the ALBA synchrotron was held on June 12 at the Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB), in the framework of the Quantum exhibition. Dr. Jordi Fraxedas, from the ICN2, together with Dr. Salvador Ferrer, from ALBA, and Dr. Gervasi Herranz, from the ICMAB, explained how this advanced facility is used to investigate materials.
