Nanoscience and nanotechnology in the classroom

NanoEduca is an initiative co-led by ICN2, the University of Barcelona (UB), the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and CESIRE (Department of Education), with the goal of introducing nanotechnology into the classrooms. Nanoscience is changing the world, and therefore it's vital that society has access to knowledge and innovations that allow for a critical assessment of the advancements made and the challenges that need to be addressed.

NanoEduca offers a growing catalog of educational resources in collaboration with scientists, teachers, and communicators. It includes training for educational staff in nanoscience, kits with educational experiments for the classroom, a growing catalog of interactive educational materials, and an annual contest for scientific posters/videos with youth as the main protagonists.

The kits, tested in a pilot program involving more than 20 schools, are available for free through the Catalan educational network and in other regions of Spain, supported by the Department of Education of the Generalitat of Catalonia. The project has been awarded the 2018 National Science Communication Award.

The programme is funded by the Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología - Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, the ICN2 Severo Ochoa Program, the University of Barcelona and the Fundació Catalana per a la Recerca i la Innovació (FCRi).
